Starter is an iconic brand that transformed sports culture into fan culture, then into pop culture. Worn by rappers in the 1980s and 1990s like Public Enemy, Run-D.M.C., and LL Cool J, Starter jackets were staples of hip hop fashion. From the satin bombers to the color blocked pullovers, the Starter jacket brought together the worlds of team sports, music and pop culture.
Tasked with launching a new Starter athleisure outerwear collection for women, it was important to build on the brand’s authentic DNA and really focus on the customer’s needs. Inspired by the archives, and with a nod to collegiate style, the new Starter women’s collection brought a retro streetwear vibe to the urban woman looking for a Starter jacket made just for her. Iconic Starter elements like color blocking, patches and the S star logo referenced the 80s and 90s classics, while the silhouettes and details were updated.
